The ECB President, Jean-Claude Trichet, said today that the current interest rate level is adequate and reaffirmed he sees no need to change them in the next few months.
At today's post-meeting press conference, where the ECB left rates unchanged at 1.0%, Trichet said that the economic activity should remain weak and predicted that there will be more volatility in the economic indicators. Despite that, Trichet also said that the economic contraction is clearly slowing down.
