The Bank of Japan left its interest rates at 0.1%, as expected. It also said it plans to maintain rates low for a long period of time.
The Japanese CPI is still very negative, but it came in as expected at -2.3%. The BoJ expects inflation to be at -1.5% in July 2010.
The household spending moderated a bit from 2.5% to 1.0%. Finally, the unemployment rate came in better than expected. The market was expecting a climb from 5.5% to 5.6%, but it came in at 5.3%.
In the markets, the yen is climbing against the majors.
